U.S. Postal Service to Unveil Kwanzaa 2024 Stamp

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is set to unveil a new Kwanzaa stamp, continuing its tradition of celebrating the Pan-African holiday that has brought together African American families and communities since 1966.

The 2024 Kwanzaa stamp was designed by USPS Art Director Ethel Kessler, featuring original artwork by Ehua Holmes. The design captures the essence of the holiday through vivid colors and symbolic imagery, aiming to reflect the joy, unity, and cultural significance of Kwanzaa. The stamp will be issued as a Forever stamp in panes of 20, ensuring its value remains consistent with the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price, making it accessible to all who wish to celebrate the holiday.

Postal Service Issues Vibrant New Stamp to Honor Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa, observed annually from December 26 to January 1, honors African American culture, heritage, and community. The holiday draws inspiration from ancient and modern first-harvest festivals celebrated across the African continent. It focuses on seven key principles: unity (umoja), self-determination (kujichagulia), collective work and responsibility (ujima), cooperative economics (ujamaa), purpose (nia), creativity (kuumba), and faith (imani). These principles emphasize the importance of cultural pride, family, and the shared aspirations of the African American community.

The first-day-of-issue event will take place on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at 12:30 p.m. EDT at the Senator John Heinz History Center, located at 1212 Smallman Street, Pittsburgh, PA. It is free and open to the public, but attendees are encouraged to register in advance at usps.com/kwanzaastamp.
