Sha’Carri Richardson Qualifies for the 2024 Paris Olympics with the Fastest Time to Beat

It’s comeback season for one of the U.S.’ biggest track and field stars Sha’Carri Richardson.

After winning the 100-meter dash in the U.S. Olympic track and field trials with a record-breaking time of 10.71 seconds this year, she is now on her way to the 2024 Paris Olympics and the fastest woman in the competition.

On Saturday, with a slow start and an untied shoelace, Richardson picked up the pace and accelerated past the other sprinters halfway through the race, crossing the finish line first with her ticket to Paris.

This is the second time Richardson won the 100 at the Trials and qualified for the Olympics, but she never made it to Tokyo as she was on suspension for testing positive for THC, which ran through the Olympic 100-meter dash. This time, she’s back and with another chance to win an Olympic medal.

“This time around, I feel as if it was more — definitely still confident, still my exciting, normal self, but more so the overwhelming feeling of joy,” Richardson said following the race.

Melissa Jefferson ran a personal-best 10.80 to place second. Twanisha Terry came third with a time of 10.98.

Richardson, Jefferson, and Terry train together and will be advancing to the Paris Olympics together.

Sha’Carri will also be running again on Thursday for the 200-meter dash, as she is expected to be placed on the 4×100 relay team.
