In an exciting update for HBCU culture and music lovers, Nick Cannon has announced the lineup for the 2025 Honda Battle of the Bands (HBOB).
The popular event, which celebrates the dynamic performances of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) marching bands, will once again bring the rich tradition, energy, and talent of these schools to the forefront. Set to take place on February 1, 2025, at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, this year’s show promises to be even more electrifying.
HBOB has long been a platform for showcasing the immense talent of HBCU marching bands. Not only do the bands demonstrate musical prowess, but they also infuse each performance with unique cultural flair, drawing in thousands of fans each year.
The bands competing in the premier showcase include:
- Southern University and A&M College – The Human Jukebox
- North Carolina A&T State University – Blue and Gold Marching Machine
- Alabama A&M University – Maroon & White Band
- Alabama State University – Mighty Marching Hornets
- Hampton University – The Marching Force
- University of Arkansas Pine Bluff – Marching Musical Machine of the Mid-South
Cannon’s revealing the 6-band lineup is especially meaningful, as he starred in the 2002 cult classic Drumline, a film that brought HBCU marching band culture to mainstream audiences. Playing Devon Miles, a young drummer navigating the challenges of marching band life at a fictional HBCU, Cannon’s portrayal is still regarded as a significant moment in Black cinema.
