Chicago Bears Chosen for 2024 HBO ‘Hard Knocks’ Season

The Chicago Bears training camp is set to be featured in the 2024 season of HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” a reality sports docuseries that offers an inside look at NFL teams, players and staff. According to Sportico, The Bears’ five-episode series will be shown on HBO and streamed on Max beginning Aug. 6

This season promises to be particularly historic and compelling because it’s the team’s first time on the series. The Bears are the first team on the show to have a rookie quarterback drafted No. 1 since the 2018 Cleveland Browns. USC’s Caleb Williams was selected by The Bears last month, following their 7-10 season.

The team’s assistant running backs coach is trailblazer Jennifer King. She has broken barriers throughout her career, beginning as the first Black female coach in the NFL when she joined the Washington Commanders in 2021. Her journey to the Bears marks another significant milestone, bringing her extensive experience and passion for the game to a franchise with a storied history. King’s presence not only enhances the coaching staff but also serves as an inspiration, showcasing diversity and progress within the NFL.

“The Chicago Bears have a talented roster, coaching staff and front office all determined to match the expectations of a hungry fanbase,” Shannon Furman, NFL Films’ senior director and supervising producer, said in a statement. “We are thankful to the entire organization for opening their doors to us for what is sure to be an exciting training camp this summer.”

In addition to King’s milestone, it’s worth noting the historical significance of Lovie Smith, who became the Bears’ head coach in 2004. Smith was the first Black head coach in the franchise’s history and led the team to a Super Bowl appearance in the 2006 season. His tenure with the Bears was marked by a strong defensive strategy and a commitment to building a competitive team. Smith’s success paved the way for future generations of Black coaches in the NFL, and Jennifer King’s current role builds on that legacy, reflecting the ongoing progress toward diversity and inclusion in football coaching.

Jennifer King will be featured in our upcoming 2024 women’s issue of WayMaker Journal, highlighting her remarkable journey and achievements.
