Angela Bassett Wins First Emmy for Outstanding Narrator

Angela Bassett has won her first Emmy Award, taking home the Outstanding Narrator award at the 2024 Creative Arts Emmys.

Bassett’s powerful narration in National Geographic’s all-female-led nature documentary Queens earned her this recognition on September 7. The documentary, which showcases the lives and survival struggles of female animals across the globe, provided Bassett the opportunity to lend her compelling voice to the project.

“Oh my God. Wow,” Bassett said while accepting the award, per PEOPLE. “My first Emmy!”

Reflecting on the moment, Bassett expressed both surprise and gratitude. “This is one of the big ones, and that doesn’t usually happen,” she said during a press conference. Known for her iconic roles in film and television, the actress noted how she drew inspiration from her mentors and maintained a deep focus on her craft throughout her career.
