A’ja Wilson made WNBA history by becoming the first player to score 1,000 points in a single season during the Las Vegas Aces’ Sunday win over the Connecticut Sun, reports ESPN.
Wilson hit the milestone with a fadeaway jump shot late in the game, highlighting her incredible season in which she’s averaged 27 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. This achievement cements her as a frontrunner for the 2024 MVP award, potentially the third of her career.
“The first and only to ever do it,” the WNBA posted on X after the momentous achievement.

“TOP TIER MOMENT ? So blessed to share this moment with my family, teammates, coaches and our amazing fans!!!” The Aces superstar wrote on Instagram.
“?? I’m one blessed girl and I wouldn’t want it any other way ?”.
Wilson surpassed Seattle Storm All-Star Jewell Loyd and became the league’s single-season scoring leader on Wednesday night in a win over Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Wilson entered that game 12 points shy of the record, and she broke it before halftime.
Since being drafted first overall by the Las Vegas Aces in 2018, Wilson has steadily built a legacy of greatness. In addition to her scoring accomplishments, she is a two-time WNBA MVP, Olympic gold medalist, and champion.
Wilson is averaging a league-best 27 points and 12.1 rebounds per game. Her 27 points per night is nearly five full points more than anyone else is scoring in the league. She is averaging 21 points per game throughout her career, which is tied with Cynthia Cooper for the best output in WNBA history.
Her journey to becoming the first player to score 1,000 points in a season further solidifies her place as one of the greatest players in WNBA history.
